Week 8 Reading and Writing

I am really happy with my storybook. I am enjoying writing it, and actually have a lot of pride in my work. I enjoy showing it off to my friends. I am having fun doing some creative writing. As an engineering student, it's been a while since I have gotten the opportunity to write for fun. I think I write pretty well, too. I do tend to fall into old-timey writing styles, especially with the material we are basing our stories on. Perhaps next time I will try a different tone.

I am really pleased with my second-person narrator though. It's different, and a little bit unique. I can't think of any books I've read in second person, and I think I pulled it off well. I think the feelings of the narrator toward "the listener" are apparent, and I believe I've gotten it to a place where most people understand what's going on, even without a background in Hinduism, while still maintaining decent flow. I did prefer the home page before I added the lesson on Hinduism; I thought it was more impactful, but I understand this is more clear for most people.

My reading notes aren't spectacular, and I may need to look over the reading strategies help again. But so far I haven't had a ton of issues with finding something to write about. I usually latch onto an idea as I'm reading, and that's what I end up writing.

My favorite image, from Shoorpankha's Trick.

I like this image because it's just so ethereal. I like how the background frames and emphasizes Rama and Sita. I like how drapey and almost translucent Sita's clothes are. I also enjoyed the story it came from. I thought it was well-crafted, and I loved the surprise twist at the end.

Looking forward, I need to take better reading notes, and perhaps read slower, or re-read.
